This week, we visited a local senior home to drop off 30 of our coffee-scented candles, each one poured by hand into small glass jars we’ve been saving for months. Honestly, we were a little nervous walking in—we weren’t sure how the seniors and caretakers would react to candles made from repurposed coffee scraps, but YIS's SWAT (Senior Well-being Assistant Team) made the process very smooth for us.

We explained how each candle started as waste from the cafés we visit every week, something people usually throw away without a second thought. They were surprised, impressed, and honestly just happy that someone cared enough to bring them something handmade. They were especially delighted that they would have some fragrant candles for the winter season.

What meant the most, though, was how they made us feel welcome. They asked about our project, told us stories about their own lives, and kept thanking us even though we felt like we were the lucky ones for being there.

We’ll definitely be visiting again soon.
